HC today: "As Doyle prepares to run for the Senate, others are eyeing the 28th District House seat he will be vacating. The top contender for the Democatic Party endorsement is Wethersfield Mayor Russ Morin, who is expected to announce his candidacy later this weeks"
Where to begin? So much to say! (Not allowed to, though!] For now, just,
THE CITIZENS OF THE STATE* DESERVE BETTER!
Much much better than Morin!
*including Wethersfield!

Would it be legal for Morin to be a state Legislator and be a state employee at the same time? At the very minimum, he would have to recuse himself on any issues related to Dept. of Transportation. That would make use Wethersfield-area citizens be short changed when it comes to having representation in the House.

Not to long ago "Our Russ " was a lonely Republican.I find it hard to believe there isn't a band of loyal Democrat's more deserving of the seat.

Wanted: OXYMORINS! Campaign slogans, bumper stickers, pith for political pins, succinct sound bites, etc, which capture the essence of the 2006 RAM Campaign for State Representative. Must help the Public focus on the issues of the selection process, the candidate's qualifications (if any), the candidate's foibles and failings and potential harm to the public. (Remember, this is Connecticut, just one step short of New Jersey, where washing someone else's back in order to wash yours has been developed into an art form.) Let your imagination run wild. Here's a few to get your started:
Morin - Proof Positive of Smokey Back Rooms
Morin - Chosen by the Few To the Chagrin of the Many
Morin - Offers You the People Anything to Get Elected
Morin - Another Chance To Vote Intelligently For Someone Else
Morin- Wethersfield's Own Reason to Vote Republican
Morin - For a State Budget Bigger, Fatter, More Bloated
Morin - A Candidate who Knows How to Follow Orders
Morin - Political Scientist and Legal Scholar - NOT!
Morin - For CT Sausage Chef in Capitol Political Kitchen

Sy - There are plenty of substantive reasons to question whether Russ is the best man for this job. Let's look at those as well.

Related question.... Who would anyone like to see be elected instead of Russ?
Have a good weekend, fly the flag, watch the parade, honor our veterans.

"I am looking forward to continuing to work on behalf of the community and know as mayor what those needs are."
Okay, that quote just about sends shivers down my spine. Russ knows what our needs are? That's news to me.
I'll tell you what I think the problem is though. Voter turnout. Yup, not many people vote, and the ones that do are all people who really want to see Russ get elected every time. Most people around here don't pay attention. I vote every time, but most folks do not.
This is hard to admit but I agree with Szygys Oxy Morins. Every one of them. Especially "Not afraid to boost taxes, again, and again, and again". And just think, if Russ is arrogant now........

I see this board is a little tough on Morin. I do think we could find someone a little better for the job. The minimum requirement of being a state rep is you should at least be able to talk with out saying um,um every other word. It's a little embarrassing when someone represents our town and can't communicate his thoughts. If Russ wins and he may since the Republican's don't appear to have anybody, Democratic leadership will be asking Morin to remain silent and other Reps will wonder if we are just a town of meatheads.

Some of the problems may have been related to work at the library and all of the phones there had to be rebooted. But that was not the sole cause and the WPD phones were compromised a number of times. Talk about rebooting! I know a current candidate that needs the boot! Does anyone know if Russ finished any level of higher education (trade schools excluded) beyond high school? What degrees has he been awarded from meaningful institutes of higher education (colleges and universities in the USA)? What has he had beyond high school and "on the job" training? Isn't he "related" to former President Gerald Ford? His campaign slogan (borrowed from Amway): "Fake it till you make it!" The 28th needs to look to a smart, thoughtful, articulate, experienced, ethically clear and proven (BOE and TC) representative - Donna Hemmann!
