Not sure whether to ignore, castigate or laugh at the WTXA. They - and, more importantly, their positions - are a buch of has beens who never were. Didn't they run a candidate a few years ago who finished dead last in the TC election? They stopped being relevant a long, long time ago and now are a poor imitation of Seniors Behaving Baadly. Imagine a lawsuit about a petition on a project that will be complete before the lawsuit is heard. Give it up, folks.

I agree with Lou on that last point. And since this category is "With Friends like the WTXA..." this is exactly the place to comment on their relevence, tar and feather, etc. Obviously, my opinion is that this is a group of extremently bad mannered and obnoxious individuals. They are scaring away volunteers and are making the town look bad. They're trying to bully and council they accuse of bullying! They are trying to paint the Counicil as bickering, all the while ignoring the fact that the Council voted unanimiously (sp?) on the budget that they're screaming about at every meeting. I think the Council should treat them more like the BOE & shut them down but I'm sure they're worried about being called "arrogant".

Are you folks reading what you are writing? You are describing the behavior of Dan O'Connor and his lackies, most of the TC, the shadow government running the town and all of the other insensitive, mean, cruel people who have been beating on a group of people trying to save their neighborhoods, homes and investments. This is all documented.
The name calling, the baiting, the telling of people how to live their lives and for what? For sports, get real. Dan O'Connor and his boys stand in the halls at every TC meeting and comment on anyone and everyone that does not believe or follow his misguided lead. And for some reason he is respected. So what is the difference if George and Rocco are equally obnoxious?
Yes, the WTXA can be a little over the top, but seeing what I'm seeing happen in this town, someone has to step-up.
Webster's Dictonary defines Hypocrite as: A person or persons (in this case) who put on false appearance of virtue.
You have been very successful at turning victims into villains. Again, for sports.
Now you have a legit reason to bash Mr. Rodd and the WTXA. I am sure you will spin this mellowdrama into your favor and something more than it really was.
Sheila's behavior at this week's TC meeting was nothing less than smug and condesending. She also made statements and comments beyond what her expertise allows. She is part of a problem and has no regard for anyone but herself and when called on it she crumbles.
Just the facts and so far the facts from the anti-neighborhood/taxpayer faction have turned out to be nothing more than BS. Documented as well.
This field project that was pulled from some dustbin and brought to top prioirity has ripped this town apart. The behavior of the field people has been appalling. It is really a shame that Mr. Rodd stooped to the level of those supporting the field, because to that point he may have been the only credible person trying to work with the town.
I know that this will hurt. I am sure that I will be bashed by many of you, but sometimes the truth must be heard. It is the truth and can be supported by any number of means.
Stop being hypocrites and let the people have this town back.

i can't believe that you believe what you are saying but if you do believe it, let me have some. i am not making fun of how you feel about the neighborhood, that is self preservation. as far as behavior is concerned you are making dan oconnor larger than life. he does not epitomize this project or movement. he is merely a taxpayer making statements.
no one has ever been as obnoxious as the wtxa and it is too bad mr rodd chose to behave badly.

TooOld,
I really don't know what to believe anymore. I have lived all over the U.S. and have never seen anything this absurd anywhere.
As for the behavior of both sides. The WTXA is grating and has some issues, but Mr. Rodd and his neighbors played by the rules and regs of this town and have been attacked for it. They now he start to play by the rules that the TC, etc. have been playing by and they are the town villains.
Don't you think that every town needs a watchdog group of some type?
I feel for the Rodds and the rest of the residents surrounding the field. They have been abused, assulted, lambasted, threatened, etc, etc for simply trying to preserve what is good, their homes and their lives. Now if you look at the postings herein you will see how the spin is being put on this. Suddenly those who have been victimized since last October are the bad guys. This hypocrisy (sp?) by the field group is amazing.
There is somthing fishy about all of this.

Hello, you talk about name calling, "Dan O'Connor and his lackies".
What kind of spin do you put on that name calling.
Did George or Rocky put you up to that?
Think of a new project once Cottone Field is done, maybe target the Fire Dept. Do they really need million $ trucks every year?
Where will you stand when they need a new firehouse on Main St. Oh, god forbid, in the hysterical district of New England
Hello, do you actually mow Mr. Rodds lawn? or just carry his water.

If the WTPA is such a force in town, how come they don't have a slate running for the council or serve on other boards? Would it be Rocco preaching to himself when he finds it's not as easy as he think's.

I believe they tried to run a slate or at least a candidate a few years agao who finished dead last, far out of the running. That says it all.

A lot of good point were made. Yes, a group of 60 year olds can not relate with kids although I must admit I am only a few years away. We need to get more young people involved in making the decisions. Rocco and his small group are only interested in themselves. The good part is, they really do not have much of a voice. No real elected leaders are giving them the time of day. enuf said.

Our system of government is set up with check and balance. Rocco and his group is part of that process. Think about how many things would be rubber stamped, if not for the work of this group. Keep up the good work.

Checks and balances are good- suing the town over keeping of campaign promises and overt political messages from supposedly non-political organizations ain't good! The WTPA are a bunch of mean-a-- old goats who's only aim is to try and make everyone so turned over to our civic leaders that thery tune out of all the good that's happening in town... Heck, if they had any concern over good government, they'd be looking for ways to help out...Not drive good people away from volunteering! Nuff said.. this fight won't stop until more of these guys join that great civic leader, Bill Mislick...I believe he was the one that wanted a fence seperating us in town from our friends in Hartford-- Now lets hear from you racist sob's who like that idea too!

Too old & Blastaway are right. I've often said that watchdogs are necessary but the WTXA goes way too far. Last night, George Ruhe had the audacity to tell the Mayor to "Stop wasting his time..." When he was asked nicely to start wrapping up. With his stupid timer, he knows darned well when his 5 minutes are up! Suing the town over every thing they disagree is a lot of b.s....

I agree that the WTXA and its antics have worn thin. Unfortunately, the vitriolic reaction by both residents and Council members to their statements before Council has probably intimidated a lot of members of the general public to the point where they may not feel comfortable too questioning anything that is being done.

In as much as I am extremely critical of some of the representatives of this group, especially Mr Rhue, I would like to differentiate my opinion of current behavior and past behavior.
If the article in the Courant is about this Mr Rhue, I want to express congratulations to him for receiving what was due him. Being part of that select group entitles him, in my view, to my heartfelt thanks as we owe you a debt of gratitude.
I might not be able to critique as much as I do without your generation and what they sacrificed.
Thanks.
