Did anyone catch Rocco Orsini "speaking for the Wethersfield Taxpayer's Association" trash Wethersfield at the Council meeting last night??! In response to some Yale/New Haven Doctor who wanted to move to Wethersfield, he proceeded to tear our town down like nobody's business! With friends like Rocco, who needs enemies! We don't need this kin=d of bias in Wethersfield, we need more boosters who want to step up and make the town better. We certainly don't need the WTPA trashing us to anyone fool who will listen...

I think it's a group of maybe 4-6 old, cranky, selfish men (with one additional possible woman) who live to tear down Wethersfield. If they hate it so much here, why not move to another more conservative community? They need to keep things fouled up so they have an excuse to get up in the morning!

I don't think so. I'm a die-hard republican and they don't speak for me. But, I voted mostly Dem this past election because I like what this new bread is doing and gonna do.

It's simple. The WTXA are a group of selfish people with motives that are transparent. Now they are trashing our town to anyone who would move here! Don't we already have enough people choosing Glastonbury, Rocky Hill, etc over our town? Thanks to the years of their keeping us from improving the town, we are in a position where we need to make some serious investments in our schools, fields, buildings if we want to compete with our surrounding communities.

The WTXA seems to be the only ones with a broad vision for the town. Instead of criticizing them, what are your suggestions. Lights and fake grass on a ball field will not keep people from moving to other towns. Education, nice neighborhoods and intelligent town management will bring people to Wethersfield.

Right now if anyone asks me about moving to Wethersfield, I steer them to Glastonbury, Farmington or even W. Hartford. Wethersfield is dying due to no vision by it's leaders and a focus on a project that does NOTHING to attract good citizens.

I'm not sure how a group of 60+'s are in touch with the youth of today. They are set in their ways and anything forward thinking for them is a challenge.

Oh that's even better - if there is opposition to anything then lets do nothing! Well at least it would be keeping with the way Wethersfield has been run for years. Nothing gets done.
Do you honestly think everyone in this town would agree to anything. Try doing something on the Silas Deane. Doesn't matter what you do, there will be opposition. I guess your recommednation would be to do nothing if someone opposes.
And you call that smart growth?

C'mon, you know & I know and thousands of others know that the football field project is bad growth. We don't have the money, space or support for such a project. The damage to the integrity of our town will be diminished greatly if this idiocy with the lights is allowed to happen.

Maybe the WTXA does oppose alot of items in town, but they sure know what they are talking about when it comes to the destruction of a neighborhood for the benefit of a few.

The value of the W.T.X.A. is that they bring to the public's attention a lot of important town issues. And, they provide plenty of info to back up their points. I do frequently disagree with their stance on issues, but I do appreciate their diligence to get issues in front of the public. Now, if the Town Council and Town Manager operated like that,,,,,,well I guess we can't have evrything.

I got an idea why not encourage the WTXA to run for Council. And let the town's voters decide if they want to listen to them. I can guarantee you this, Not one of them would get elected! In the last election they only vocally supported one guy and guess what? He lost! So much for speaking for 1000's and 1000's!

Maybe with all of the neighborhood and the 5 members of the Taxpayers association (+ Dr Ken- George Rhue's son-in-law) we have 50 people against the Cottone field project... So much for thousands and thousands...If that was the case, the Republicans wouldn't have gone from 6-3 to 3-6!

In so doing your thing you have, after all these years, activated a progressive group of taxpayers that has become motivated not to put up with the isolationist visions of what Wethersfield has been, is, and should be.

As a resident of Wethersfield for over 45 years, I also have a vision and it differs from yours. The group that I have come to be part of is very much aware of the direction that the town needs to take. We have made an initial statement by electing to the BOE and the Town Council those taxpayers that are also visionaries and that we know will support the efforts needed to bring the town back to where it once was.

It was Shelia the lighting expert. She was part of a conversation. Questions needed to be answered. The tables turn for a moment & there is drama.

Also, please vote YES in tomorrow's referendum. DO NOT use the vote as a NO-CONFIDENCE vote towards the TC. We need to repair the town hall and library ASAP.

From what I heard it was Mr. "Open Government" (George Ruhe) & the wonderfully open-minded Ron Rodd who verbally assaulted Sheild Suppicich (a well thought of volunteer for the Cottone field project and true lighting expert, unlike Rodd) who had earlier had the nerve to stand up to these bullies earlier in the evening. It's amazing! The TC is constantly assaulted by the WTXA & Rodd's organization and they then gang up on a poor woman for having the nerve to expose them!!

What an embarassment these people are to the Town of Wethersfield. More people need to start coming to the TC & BOE meetings from time-to-time to let our leaders know for sure (beyond the overwhelming support the voters gave them in November and again yesterday) that we're tired of their deceit and they're condescentions of our elected representatives!!!

i agree that the behavior exhibted at the council meetings and the language and finger pointing is totally inappropriate.

Concerning the WTXA 's behavior at the TC meetings I am always in Awe that the rest of the people in attendance allow them to get away with their poor behavior. Examples,

George's clock beeping, snorting, coughing, whispering to others during peoples comments. Also his rude finger pointing and dismissing of the TC members when they are not in a position to speak back.

The way they all sit spread out, together taking up all that space with the notebooks, and clip boards ect... Even when its standing room only they have three seats to every one WTXA rear, and NO ONE asks them to move. Personally when I go I try and sit close, I feel it stops at least a little of his teeth sucking because I glare at him like I glare at my kids when they are rude.

The endless frekin quotes of long dead statesmen...boring and not at all to the point. If they want to add more time they should use their five minutes wisely and get to the point.

I would love to see more people stand up to them. While they talk of citizens rights and ability to speak at TC meetings, more people are intimated because of their poor social behavior.

I know that I will be accused of all sorts of things for saying this, but we would all be a lot better off if the energies being devoted to tarring and feathering the WTXA and its members were directed at positive tasks and accomplishments. If they are in fact a handful of wide-butted, rude, cranky curmudgeons who have no support and their positions have no merit, ignore them and go about your business. By the same token, please don't take every victory for the forces of good and every defeat of the forces of evil as a "mandate" for anything other than the specific matter being addressed. The success of the referendum yesterday should never have been in doubt (although the low turnout may have caused a few sweaty palms) and to paint it as a "win" against the WTXA that can be extrapolated into an endorsement of other initiatives or as evidence of their irrelevance in the town is misplaced and dangerous.

Seriously, if I was in a certain mindset, I would agree with you...but with everything that is happening I am not there.

I do not think that the energies being used here lessen the total energies used for the things you speak of.

Tar and feathering can only happen when there is something to be tarred and feathered. It is high time that the emperor was told he has no clothes on. That is what is happening here.

The current referendum was not about the WTXA but about their behavior.

You're obviously a lot closer to all of this and have invested more time, energy and emotion in it than I have. So I can't walk in your shoes and certainly can't say that you're categorically wrong. However, I honestly don't agree that the magnitude of yesterday's vote was either a blanket endorsement of the current Council or a condemnation of the WTXA. Some of it was, yes, for sure. But neither of the two "yes" votes from under my roof had anything to do with either of those things - it was simply the right thing to do and a foolish thing not to do.

However, they are under the microscope due to their general affect.
