Wells, Ian A.
I met Ian when I was "covering" the planning and construction for and the dedication of the SkatePark at Mill Woods.
Ian Alden Wells, 18, of Wethersfield, died suddenly on Monday (August 18, 2008). He was the beloved youngest son of Stephen and Sheila (Santhouse) Wells of Wethersfield and the adored little brother of Celeste Wells and Owen Zimmerman, Annalee Wells and Jen Cronsell, and John Wells, all of Wethersfield.
Ian was a member of the Wethersfield Skate Park start-up committee and was an avid skateboarder and snowboarder. He was a lifeguard and counselor at Camp Asto Wamah in Columbia. Ian was a talented musician, playing mandolin, banjo, guitar, bass, violin and harmonica and enjoyed jamming with his friends. He was also a member of the Col. John Chester Fife & Drum Corps for many years. Ian endeavored to do his best for his coaches and teammates on the Wethersfield wrestling team.
He looked forward to a future filled with the adventure he sought. Ian will be remembered for his wicked sense of humor, his love of the world, his love of the outdoors, his creativity, his diverse interests and good conversation. He loved his family, was a loyal friend and loved his animals, especially his cat Julio.
In addition to his parents and siblings, Ian is survived by his nephews, Alden and Elias, who adored him and by his grandparents, Joan and Val Santhouse, as well as a large and loving extended family and many good friends who will miss him greatly.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 23, at 1 p.m. at the First Church of Christ, Wethersfield. Calling hours are Friday (today Aug. 22, 2008) from 3-6 p.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd, Wethersfield. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations in Ian's name may be made to the Camp Asto Wamah Campership Fund, West Rt. 87, Columbia, CT 06237 or the Plantation Farm Camp Campership Fund, 34285 Kruse Ranch Road, Cazadero, CA 95421. For on-line expressions of sympathy, please visit desopo.com.
