I pass this on now two days later, via a friend in Town Hall: From: Therrien, Bonnie Sent: Wednesday, June 04, 2008 3:25 PM To: ALL - Entire Post Ofice Subject: FW: Announcement
Good Afternoon Everyone!! By my own choice and for my own personal reasons, on Monday, June 2nd, I handed in my resignation to the Town Council. After a long period of thought and after 24 years of local government, I find myself ready for a change and new career opportunities. The Council has not accepted my resignation as of yet. I told them I would continue working with the Town until a successor has been appointed, which could take 4-6 months.

She has been better than predecessor Lee Erdman, but that's not saying a lot. Town Departments frequently do not seem to understand they ultimately report to the citizens, and she lets them get away with that far too much. A QUESTION FOR THE POSTERS WHO KNOW THE TECHNICALITIES: what is the process for selecting a new Town Manager?

A QUESTION FOR THE POSTERS WHO KNOW THE TECHNICALITIES: what is the process for selecting a new Town Manager?
Depends. The party in power gets to determine the course of action, as the position is Council-appointed. Last time, a professional headhunter firm was hired to conduct a national search. When the search was narrowed to a few candidates, citizens were asked to accompany these candidates on a tour of Wethersfield and to answer candidate questions. Those citizens also shared opinions with the Mayor and Council.

Rep's order, "Lead!" Dem's order, "Follow!" People plead, "Go!" Bonnie: "I'm gone!"

I found it interesting that a boccie court and skate park were among the great achievements credited to Bonnie in the Courant article announcing her departure. But no mention of the artificial turf field...an obvious omiision...could there be a liability concern?
Also, in the face of hard economic times, failing town projects and a general lack of leadership Bonnie decides to pursue other interests? Call me a cynic but I can't help but think there's more behind her decision to "leave" (note the article doesn't mention anything about retirement) than what we're being told. I wonder what other 'accomplishments' went unmentioned or what else she knows that those in the know won't dare to share?
A curious decision to say the least...

Wethersfield Manager Therrien To Leave Post
By ANN MARIE SOMMA Courant Staff Writer June 6, 2008
WETHERSFIELD —
Bonnie Therrien, town manager for the past five years, notified the town Wednesday that she will resign as soon her replacement is found.
Therrien said after 24 years working in town and city government, she feels it is time for her to move on. She has no job prospects or concrete plans. She has informed the town council that while it searches for her replacement she will give "200 percent" to the town.
"I'm ready for a change, and this is an opportune time," Therrien said.
Town officials, many of whom said they were shocked and saddened by Therrien's impending departure, praised her as a consummate professional.
"I have nothing but praise for her, absolutely nothing but praise. She's great, and it's going to be devastating without her," said Police Chief James Cetran.
Therrien came to the town in 2003, after leaving a town manager post in Berlin, where she served from 1996 until April 2003. Before that she served as assistant town manager in Enfield, deputy city manager in Hartford and assistant city manager in Jacksonville, N.C.
The first woman town manager here, Therrien helped the town focus on economic development such as the creation of the town's redevelopment agency and worked to make town departments run more efficiently. She oversaw the renovation of town hall and the library, the renovation of the Webb School into an elementary school, and the current revitalization of the Silas Deane Highway.
Those who work with her describe her as a hardworking, well-organized town manager. She has worked under both Republican- and Democratic-led town councils.
Mayor Andy Adil rattled off a list of projects that Therrien oversaw that helped move the town forward.
"Under her there was a $3 million bond package to do roadwork, install new sidewalks. We've done town hall renovations, built a bocce ball court, a skateboard park." Adil said. "She's a good lady. I'm going to miss her. Whoever follows her is going to have some pretty big shoes to fill."
Town Councilman John Cascio said Therrien treated everyone with respect and understanding.
"It's a tough job being town manager and she did a fantastic job," Cascio said.Contact Ann Marie Somma at asomma@courant.com.

Will Bonnie "go home" to Berlin? Would "Berliners" welcome her back?
Should the Dem's give her (as a good serf and faithful servant) a going-away party, filled will pate and platitudes? Should the Wethersfield taxpayers organization too with brie and glee?

Have you ever Googled your own name? Have you ever Googled your own 10 digit telephone number? It can be enlightening. Just imagine what Big Business and Bigger Brother have in their files about you. As I was gathering and confirming certain information about our departing Town Manager, I came across a bit more information about Bonnie than I had known. In light of President Obama's promise and plans to encourage greater transparency by and in government, I will pass the following information on to the public. Hopefully this will help Bonnie find the job that fits her skills. Click: Bonnie Therrien"The Mercer Group provides the highest quality management consulting services to federal, state and local governments, health care providers, transit authorities, utilities, and private-sector clients."
If you have a little extra time, nose around the Mercer Group's website and you will see that they are an apparently, very interesting and talented group!

So, does Bonnie still work for us full time? I noticed her weekly management report has not been posted on the town website for the week ending January 30. Are we getting our money's worth from her at this time? Ms.ThinkingMama, You are right: there was no manager's report on the Town's website on Friday. [I had run into T/Hall to drop off my property tax payment. So I also stopped in at the Manager's office and picked up a copy of the Agenda and Package printout for the Council meeting tonight. But I forget, in my haste, to pick up a hardcopy of her report (with all of only alluded attachments). I just got off the phone with Bonnie's executive secretary (Gail). She said that there was indeed a report and that she would (again?) pass it on to the webmaster of the Town's site for posting. Hopefully that will be available online soon. If you have a little time before 4:30 today, you could stop by at the manager's office and pick up on of the few copies of the full report remaining. Are we getting our (taxpayers) money's worth you asked. I would say yes. But, there is a rumor that she may be leaving before a new manager is actually selected and/or contracted. Perhaps oldetowne - another fount of reliable information on this board - might let us know. Check again later today for the manager's report: wethersfieldct.com/tmo/WMR.html.
