The "Fire House Bar & Grill" lasted only 12 months, closing in October, 2006, after taking 5 months to renovate the former Bennigan's Restaurant. Soup & sandwich shop "Tim Horton's" has opened diagonally across from Town Hall. "SAKE" (sushi/hibachi) has opened in the Wethersfield Shopping Center and may provide some competition (or complement to?) Saporo's in the Goff Brook Shopping Center (which is a powerful draw for the raw fish fans).
The Village Tavern (Restaurant) in the center of Old Wethersfield will not be renewing its five-year lease option in the Deming Standish house. Nearby the "Red Onion" restaurant can't seem to effect a lasting resurrection.
Carmen Anthony Fishhouse apparently continues to thrive, as does nearby Hooter's and Elaine's on the Berlin TPK. Angelino's is still alive and kicking; Amici's is long gone (lease issue); Wethersfield Diner Restaurant is alive and busy; Red Lobster still pulls them in (and is blessed with the Best Western hotel next door. Max Bibo's Deli is still here catering to discerning followers. The myriad of pizza / grinder shops, and national franchises (Subway, Friendly's, Burger King, Denny's, KFC, etc.) seem to be busy and a constant in town. In Olde Wethersfield, Spicy Green Bean Deli is still going strong; Crown & Kringle is surviving for now. Bars with bar-food persist and are not likely to close. (Wood & Tap is busy on Townline Road (R.H.) following the closing of Ground Round.)
How about forum members providing their own experiences, preferences and predictions for dining in Wethersfield?
What eateries in town do you like and why? Which do you dislike, and why? What kind of eating establishments would you like to see in Wethersfield and why do you think it/they would succeed where others have failed? What are your predictions about the longevity of those already in town; etc., etc.?
