I just read that gas has gone down about $.15 a gallon in the last two days but the gas stations haven't passed it on to us consumers yet. Boy, if the price went up $.15 a gallon it would be posted immediately at the pumps.
I know, same old story but this drives me nuts.

Very interesting when you see the breakdown. Note the gross receipts tax, which is not posted on the pump. This tax is a percentage tax based on the wholesale cost. The State just raised this tax July 1 2006.
Average Wholesale Price / New Haven/Regular $2.54 Federal Excise Tax $0.184 State Excise Tax $0.250 State Gross Receipts Tax [6.72%] $0.17 Transportation to Local Gas Stations from New Haven $0.040 Price Paid by the Local Retailer $3.184 Dealer Mark-Up [gross mark-up before taxes, payroll, utilities and other operating expenses. The dealer NETS about 3c per gallon $0.20 Credit Card Company Fee [3% of the amount charged by the consumer] $0.10 Retail Price to Consumers $3.484
This chart shows the average wholesale price of unleaded regular gasoline for 13 different suppliers on July 5, 2006 at New Haven Harbor [$2.54]. Then add state and federal taxes, then transportation charged to move the gasoline from New Haven to your local gasoline station. The average price paid by the local retailer is $3.184. The dealer tries to mark-up the delivered cost by 20c per gallon, out of which the local dealer nets a profit of approximately 3c per gallon. Then, every time a consumer uses a credit card to make a purchase the credit card company assesses a fee on the retailer of anywhere from 3% to 6%, depending on the credit card used.
Based on the wholesale price charged by suppliers to local retailers on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, the average price of regular gasoline would be approximately $3.484 per gallon.
According to the AAA survey of gasoline prices nationally, the average price in Connecticut for regular gasoline was $3.15 on the same day it could have been $3.484.

I was in Hadley, Mass and gas was $2.91. Hard to imagine that is a good deal, but compared to CT it is. Taxes are the difference.

...and to think, THEY were called Taxachusetts. I guess those in favor of big government for everything have something of which to be proud: We are the most heavily taxed State in the nation! Even in the "Peoples' Republic of Vermont", regular gas was only $2.87 last week. Hail Mr. "Income Tax" Weicker and all tax-and-spend liberals who follow in his footsteps (read: Lamont).
