"Napoleon Dynamite: He's out to prove he's got nothing to prove." (2004)
I would like to make you all aware of a new pen that has a recorded message that says "You guys are retarded." (a quote from the movie "Napoleon Dynamite"*) Sales have been hot and chances are my children will hear that in school this September.
We cannot allow our children to attend a school in which the message of "You Guys are Retarded" is freely heard in classrooms, the hallways, and the playground. The schools must convey the message that it is NOT okay to marginalize students with intellectual disabilities. . The pen retails for $6.95 and is sold at Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, Wal-Mart and Target.
I am a parent of two children who will be attending in a few weeks. Their younger brother (who will be starting preschool [locally] in December) has Down Syndrome; I cannot imagine how they will feel if they have to be subjected to this. I, along with several members of the Connecticut Down Syndrome Congress, will be contacting the above mentioned stores, as well as the company that created the pens. I have not yet gone into the stores, and am unaware if they are yet being sold locally . My request is that they are BANNED from all of our schools. They are clearly violating a "zero tolerance" policy.
