Nott Street has become by far one of the worst things in this town. On one end by the Berlin Turnpike, construction has been a process that seems like it will never end. Why the holdup?? Then from the Pitkin Community Center to the Wolcott Hill crossing, the road is in a pathetic condition. Why is this?

The end by the Berlin Turnpike has been the subject of a little bit of controversy lately but should be done one way or another by the end of this summer.
The other part of Nott Street and every other road like it is a casualty of state aid cuts and limited tax dollars. If you get a petition signed or show up with 100 people at a Council meeting, they will pave it for you.

Well, by my calculations the streets haven't just deteriorated since the last election.
However, if a petition and over 100 people will do the trick, maybe it is due to the council being open to receiving mass concerns. Isn't road repair on the front burner, as well?

Your calculations are correct but your insinuation is not. I didn't say it had deriorated since the last election - I was just commenting on how things have almost always been done in town. I hope that roads, sidewalks, buildings, etc., are still on the "to do" list but I am not sure how large the stove is to allow so many things to be on the front burner at once.

I hope that the roads most needing repair are part of the list, ASAP. Time will tell.

The town has a priority ranking system based on condition, traffic volume, etc. It's a little bit subjective but the real issue is the money to do the work. The draft capital budget called for a bond of 3 or 4MM for roads. That would be worthwhile, especially if it's rolled in with one to cover some of the other "need" items in town.

It's a great time to bond out with rates still low. Planning these now will make all involved look good when paying off low cost bonds with inflated dollars, especially with rates surely to rise.

Especially if the stuff we are postponing is NEVER going to be done with current revenues....

I'm not sure what the big deal was over Nott Street. To tell you the truth, I can't see the difference. Lot of money down the tubes if you ask me.

Thank you. I thought it was just me that saw almost nothing different other than the pavement is a little smoother.

I'm curious (not that I haven't heard that before).
Just how many feet was this "hazardous" crest of Nott Street dropped by the recent demolition and resurfacing? Any body out there KNOW for sure?
Let us all know, please!

Let us all know, please! Well whatever it was, it wasn;t enough because there still is a crest where you can't see anything on the other side. Whatever they did didn't help.

I will tell you that from my perspective it does not appear that much has changed. I would really like some feedback from residents as to whether this whole "over-the-top" situation was warranted and appropriate.
Put this along with two other "State Projects" and I see a pattern of ineptitude.
First, Why was there no access planned for 91 South from the Spring St construction area. Not too smart.
Second, has anyone been in the line going from 91 N to 84 East? Not only is this ridiculous, but there are numerous near misses and I can only see a horrible accident occurring here.

I don't understand what the previous poster referred to with I-91 and Spring St. But, I have long felt that the entrance ramp to I-91 South at Great Meadow Rd. is unsafe. As you merge into I-91, you are instantly met with cars taking the right hand lane to exit onto Route 3 South. At a DOT meeting a couple of years back (which was about a project outside of Wethersfield), I asked a DOT engineer about this. He told me that the state did not want to build the exit ramps that way, but that Wethersfield officials had refused to permit their alternative, which would have been much safer. I'd love to sometime find the correspondence on that decision, but it does sound just like our town fathers (and mothers).

I wonder how many of those inconvenient and bizarre I-91 interchange configurations were made to accommodate the boat launch and the "interchange zone" developments that our fearless leaders supported tacitly and then rushed to oppose so vehemently after seeing which way the political wind was blowing. Yep, good old Wethersfield leadership at its best.
