We need more tax dollars routed to the police department to increase their presence on our roads. I live near a stop sign and watch as 90 percent of the traffic races down the street and then slow down to maybe 10 miles an hour for the intersection. Maybe one out of 50 will stop. I was on Wells road a little while ago as the children at Emerson Williams were being let out. A man in a Range Rover was behind me tailgaiting. I slowed to 25 mph for the flashing yellow lights and the 25 mph zone for the school. The man in the range rover was blowing his horn, weaving back and forth and screaming and gesturing obsenities at me. This was all occuring in view of the young kids. What does it take to slow these people down besides, maybe, hitting a pedestrian? The mothers picking up their children are no saints either. If you are heading down a school zone they are one car length off your bumper until get to a turn and zoom off in another direction. It is a real shame we don't have the speed recorders with the cameras or a larger force, and send tickets to those responsible for disregarding the law. I'm sure it would generate a healthy sum of revenue for the town's coffers. . I know people can read and do know the laws, as they certainly obey signs and limits when they see a police car nearby, so ignorance is not a valid excuse. Bring accountability for individual actions back into vouge and put more money into the hands of those who can enforce it.

Here is something we can agree on: citizens need to be more obedient of traffic reg's and considerate of others on our roads. (I am glad we got past the trashcan issues.) All of our roads would be one helluva lot safer if all citizens did like you: do the (speed) limit and not beyond (regardless of the idiots behind you, which you should just simply ignore anyway!). If everyone would make an effort (and in this busy world, it can be a challenge) to just do the limit, we all would be safer. And, more time could be spent catching the bad guys. Good post and carry on!

Amen. You're absolutely right. There has to be away to slow these people down and make them think of the ramifications if something serious happens. Come to think of it, that's probably what it will take.

If you inform the police that there is a problem in a certain area they can devote extra resources to address it. Give them a call. They even have a web form specifically to take such suggestions: wethersfieldct.com/police/forms/sel_enforce.htmAs far as fattening the town coffers through enforcement of traffic laws, that would be nice but it doesn't work that way; such fines go to the State. Only violations of local ordinances (e.g. parking tickets) are payable to the town.
