Here are the new budget figures (from town website), which work out to a 5+% increase in the budget:
On Tuesday, May 15, 2006 (sic - should be 2007 but this is the kind of quality workmanship we are used to from town staff) the Wethersfield Town Council passed the following motions in adopting the Town budget for fiscal year 2007-2008.
Deputy Mayor Fortunato moved "THAT THE TOTAL APPROPRIATIONS FOR LIBRARY PURPOSES BE SET AT $1,601,517 FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JULY 1, 2007" seconded by Councilor Cascio. Passed 8-1-0. (NB: I believe Councilor Drake voted no)
Councilor Walsh moved "THAT THE TOTAL APPROPRIATIONS FOR SCHOOL PURPOSES BE SET AT $44,799,332 FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JULY 1, 2007" seconded by Councilor Kotkin. Passed 8-1-0. (NB: I believe Councilor Drake voted no)
Councilor Montinieri moved "THAT THE TOWN COUNCIL ADOPT THE TOWN BUDGET AS SUBMITTED BY THE TOWN MANAGER ON MARCH 31, 2007 AND AS AMENDED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL, IN THE SUM OF $78,798,250 FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JULY 1, 2007" seconded by Deputy Mayor Fortunato. Passed 9-0-0.
Councilor Forrest moved "THAT THE TOTAL AMOUNT TO BE RAISED BY TAXES FOR THE TOWN, LIBRARY, AND SCHOOL PURPOSES COMBINED BE SET AT $65,589,866 FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JULY 1, 2007" seconded by Councilor Kotkin. Passed 9-0-0.
Councilor Kotkin moved "THAT THE TAX RATE ON ALL REAL AND PERSONAL TAXABLE PROPERTY BE SET AT 32.94 MILLS FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JULY 1, 2007" seconded by Councilor Forrest. Passed 9-0-0.

In case anyone is curious, let's compare these to the figures in the budget last preceding the Morin-Adil regime, as approved on May 15, 2003. In four years:
* The Library Budget has increased by 44.4%
* The School Budget has increased by 31.2%
* The overall Town Budget has increased by 34.2%
* Aggregate Property taxes have increased by 32.3%
Simply stunning
