Each town school has its own library.
Half the town residents have a home computer.
There is a library just 2 miles up the road in Rocky Hill.
Many fine vacant libraries in Hartford.
The Wethersfield library is just a money, get rid of the library, and most of all - get rid of Morin.

I think Impeach is on to something. After we close down the library we can get rid of the ploice department. All the other towns around us have police and there is also the State Police. And now that the ban on assault rifles has expired, everyone can get an AK47 to defend themselves.
Think of the savings. Let;s get rid on Morin for not thinking of this. (just a bit of satire)

Well Impeach it looks like your suggestion was not acted upon and Wethersfield will continue to have a Public Library. The renovations to the Library have begun and you can learn more about the status of renovations and what to expect when the project is finished. Members of the Library Board will be appearing live on "Wethersfield Live" Friday April 8t at 9:00 pm on channel 14. As always your comments and questions are welcome when we open up the phone lines.

Regarding the recent vote by the library employees to unionize, it has nothing to do with the current state of the physical plant of the 'library' (media center).

Just another union that will steamroll over our "town negotiators".
Will this mean the librarians can only file X amount of books per hour / day? That in turn we'll have to hire more staff and then more supervisors to manage the staff.

Has anybody noticed one of the items in the budget for the new Library work? They want to hire a consultant at $60 per hour. Guess what the consultant does? She's a specialist in "reshelving". So, the town is going to spend hundreds - thousands of bucks for an expert that will tell our crack library staff how to move the books to the new parts of the library. This blatant abuse of taxpayer money needs reactions from us taxpayers, and LOUD reactions.

And here's another Library Budget related item. Remember last year when the Library had to cut back their hours of operation because of budget cuts by the Town Council. That caused the Library to be closed from 1PM to 5PM every Friday as the way that the Library Director "cut costs". There are 2 kinds of library workers: the 5-day 40 hour 'professional' employees and the part-timers that handle the checkout counter, reshelving of checked-in books and such. The latter people are usually housewives, retired folks, and highschoool students. I encourage the taxpayers to drop by the library any Friday PM and look in thru the closed doors. Yes, the part-timers aren't there. But, guess what: the full time staff is in there working. This means that the big-bucks fulltime staff has NOT had any reduced hours, and of course means that they are still getting their full paychecks. What do you think the town is saving by cutting the housewife-highschoolers hours? Maybe $100 at most per week. That's a whopping $5,000 savings per year. Wake up citizens; the Library Director has hoodwinked us.
