Wethersfield, CT ---
The Eleanor Buck Wolf Nature Center of Wethersfield and Starbucks Coffee(r) will sponsor a community clean-up of Wintergreen Woods to celebrate Earth Day on Friday afternoon, April 22, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help pick up litter, spread wood chips, and trim bushes to help protect this unique local nature preserve. Please sign-up by Friday, April 15, by visiting Starbucks Coffee at 1080 Silas Deane Highway or contacting the Nature Center at 860-721-2953 or naturecenter@wethersfieldct.com.
Volunteers of all ages are welcome, particularly crew leaders with experience maintaining trails and leading youth groups. Organizers will provide safety gloves, trash bags, and light refreshments. Volunteers are welcome to bring personal tools.
Earth Day provides an opportunity to demonstrate our community’s commitment to a healthy environment for all by protecting one of our public nature preserves. Wintergreen Woods contains unique wetland habitats and geologic features and is well used by neighbors, including Emerson-Williams Elementary, Wethersfield High, and Nature Center students.
Starbucks Coffee Company is a proud sponsor of the Earth Day Network and Earth Day activities around the world. The new store in Wethersfield will provide volunteers and supplies to the Wintergreen Woods community clean-up.
The Eleanor Buck Wolf Nature Center of Wethersfield is a public community center and educational facility devoted to sharing and exploring our natural world through exciting environmental learning. The Center provides a variety of exhibits and programs for children and adults, including a live collection of birds, mammals, and reptiles.
