Second Annual Winton, Keane, Bittner 9/11 Memorial Soccer Jamboree
The Second Annual Winton, Keane, Bittner 9/11 Memorial Soccer Jamboree will be held at Wethersfield High School on Sunday, September 12, 2004, 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM, on the newly rebuilt,, re-surfaced Cottone Field. The pre-season soccer celebration is held in memory of the three town residents who perished at the World Trade Center tragedy on September 11, 2001, David H. Winton, Richard M. Keane, and Jeffrey D. Bittner, and will include over 150 student athletes from 8 neighboring towns as well as Kingswood-Oxford, Xavier, and East Catholic. There will also be a Free Soccer Clinic conducted by Wethersfield’s Tony DiCicco, former Head Coach for the US Women's National Soccer Team, Commissioner of the WUSA and President of SoccerPlus Camps. Two professional players will assist with the clinics, Tiffany Roberts and Timothy Sahaydak. The clinic times for boys and girls is as follows: 7-8 year olds 11-12 noon; 9-10 year olds 12:15-1:15pm; and 11-12 year olds 1:30-2:30 pm. This is a terrific event and an excellent example of the benefits that a turfed (and ultimately lighted) field can bring to the community.
Sunday usage of the facility is one of the many things that the naysayers have objected to. I hope they see the light and realize that this is in the best interests of the entire town.
