Lt. Governor Rell Announces Details
for July 1 Swearing In Ceremony
Details of the swearing in ceremony for Lt. Governor M. Jodi Rell as Connecticut’s 87th Governor were released today
At 12 noon, on July 1, Lt. Governor Rell will be sworn in and will immediately address the citizens of the State of Connecticut. The ceremony will take place on the North Steps of the State Capitol.
As the new Commander-in-Chief of the Connecticut National Guard and historic state militia units, Lt. Governor Rell will enter the Capitol grounds through an honor cordon of service members and will receive full military honors following her oath of office, including a 19-gun howitzer salute.
Invited guests include the state’s Congressional delegation and constitutional officers, legislators and family and friends. Seating and standing room for the public will be available. In addition, the public is welcome to view the ceremony via television in the Legislative Office Building.
The following is an overview of the July 1 events:
· Lt. Governor M. Jodi Rell and Mr. Louis Rell will be escorted by Major General William Cugno, Connecticut’s Adjutant General and by the Connecticut Firefighters Pipes and Drums.
· Rev. George Crocker, retired pastor of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brookfield, will deliver the Invocation.
· Chloe Zampaglione, age 5, of Torrington, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. At special invitation, Chloe will be joined on the dais by her stepfather, PFC William Zampaglione and fellow Iraqi war veteran, Pvt. Steven Wabrek of New Hartford. Both soldiers, members of the Connecticut National Guard’s 143rd Military Police Company, received Purple Hearts after being injured in the line of duty while serving overseas.
· Middletown Chorale will sing “America the Beautiful.”<br>
· The Oath of Office will be administered by William J. Sullivan, Chief Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court. A family Bible will be used for the occasion.
· Address by Governor M. Jodi Rell.
· Kenneth Overton, Baritone with the Connecticut Opera, will sing “God Bless America.”<br>
· Benediction by Rev. James J. Nock, Senate Chaplain and Pastor of Our Lady of Peace Parish in East Hartford
