What are you talking about? The procedes from this charity event go to the maintenenance and restoration fund for "Mikey's Place", a handicapped accessable playground at Standish Park in Old Wethersfield. We are also establishing a scholarship in the name of Michael James Daversa, in conjunction with Dollars for Scholars. Lightsout, get you facts straight!!!!!

LightsOut enough already. Your garbage messages have gotten old. Now you have started to flood any msg thread with your problems about the lights. This thread is about a fund raiser for Mickey's place. Which is a good cause. To the administrator of this message board. Is there any way to kick this person off and keep them off. I know that a valid Email address is needed to register. If they could be kicked off and tried to register under a different name if the use the same Email address couldn't they be blocked?

I think Lights Out feels Mikey's Place ruined a neighborhood too! How pathetic. Obviosly he has never been down there watching all the children laughing and enjoying themselves. Last time I went there the entire surrounding neighborhood was there. To all involved in making Mikey's Place a reality - I appreciate you! The other guy clearly has no lights on!

The event is a great time and Keeney does a great job.
I look forward to it again.
As far as the playground...I drove around Sunday and it was good to see many families taking advantage of it. In the background soccer was playing and the BB courts were full.
This is what a park is suppossed to be like.
It appears as if the neighbors do not mind the cars and people there...I have never really heard anyone from that neigborhood call for the park to be moved or not used on the weekend.

They have complained in the past about the amount of parking and some have even objected to the use of the Standish Park basketball and soccer fields by "those people".

Oldetown, I will admit to being bias in my opinion of "Mikey's Place" because Mikey was my nephew, but if you ask me there is no better playground on the face of the earth than that one. I dont know who the "they" or "those people" are to whom you are referring, but other than insufficient parking the only complaint I ever heard was that there was no drinking fountain (which has now been installed in case you haven't been there recently). as for the basketball court and soccer field, well since they are not part of Mikey's Place then I dont know what to say other than it's nice to see them used. Parking will always be an issue there because it is such a popular destination for families, but the neighbors dont seem to mind, in fact when we hold the annual 5k the neighbors could not be more supportive, offering to allow us to use electricity from their homes for example. Anyway, after reading the many threads on this forum, I would like to make this statement - When my nephew passed away and my sister decided to build a playground in his memory, I saw this town respond with support and enthusiasm like I had never seen before. Because of that enthusistic support, we now have that beautiful park to enjoy for a lifetime, and I for one am very appreciative for everyone who contributed. It is because of that sense of community that I am happy to raise my family in this town.

Sorry for the misunderstanding - I wasn't referring to parking and people at Mikey's Place, just the fields and hoops courts behind it at Standish Park. My kids would live at Mikey's Place if they could and it's a shining example of what can be done with cooperation and dedication. I remember the pitiful swing set and the two or three rusted fixtures that were there before.

msg001: Yes, I have the ability to block an IP address if the poster spam’s become unproductive and a nuisance to everyone. I don’t have the time to check all the post but it you could bring them to my attention, I’ll promise you I’ll review them and then make a decision.
This thread is about Mikey’s Place Golf Classic and I highly recommend everyone to attend. I played last year and it was very enjoyable and most of all it’s for a great cause.

Administrator: Thank you for your response. I understand that that everyone has a right to their opinions. The problem I had with the comments that Lightsout made were that they where inacurate and in a place where I feel they should not have been. The right to speak your mind is great when you don't over do it and for your own selfish reasons push your views onto people who are trying to do something worthy as a fund raiser. Thx again...

Hopefully all of the lightsout ugliness is now behind us and we can get back to what started this thread - The third annual "Mikey's Place Golf Classic" - We are going to have some great give aways this year and as always lots of nice raffle prizes as well - foursomes are already getting signed up so dont hesitate - get your registration forms in early - So everyone knows, we have already installed some new features at Mikey's Place this year - "Grampa's Boat" is a great new piece in the 2 - 5 year old section (dedicated to Mikey's Grandfather, the late William Huffman) and a new drinking fountain has also been installed. It is thanks to the monies raised in events such as the golf tournament and the 5k that we can continue to improve and beautify our wonderful park. Anyone interested in helping with a spring clean up at Mikey's Place, we will be down there this Saturday, May 1st, at 5:00 pm. until about 7:00 pm. with pizza's and beverages for all volunteers. Thank you all again for your support and we will see you at the Park!! ;D ;D

Thank you to all who came down and helped in the spring clean up effort at Mikey's Place yesterday (Saturday May 1st). We appreciate all the efforts of our many friends and family that continue to help us maintain the park. I encourage everyone to go check out the new features and enjoy beautiful landscaping. Congratulations to Henry & Theresa Daversa on the dedication of the new bench swing commemorating their 50th wedding anniversary! ;D Thank you all once again!!

As we are only about a month away from "the Classic" foursomes are getting signed up and it looks to be a good field so far - Also, it should be mentioned that we will have some outstanding raffle prizes and give aways this year - Raffles include a television (not sure of the size yet) donated by Best Buys, and a SIGNED poster from the NATIONAL CHAMPION Uconn men's basketball team. Spots are filling up, so get your registration forms in. See you on the course!

We are now just a week away and, as has happened each of the previous two years, we are getting a lot of last minute registrations - spots are filling up fast and there seem to be a lot big talkers saying that they are going to take home the trophies this year! Last years champions and the previous champions are both coming back this year, so the field is definitely going to be competitive. We have LOTS of terrific raffle prizes this year, including the 25" television from best buys... a DVD player, the UCONN poster, all sorts of gift certificates, etc...any one interested in getting in can still contact me at 721-7159... Thanks, and we will see you on the course!!! ;D ;D ;D
