Last night (as in the "dead of night" which sounds better than just yesterday evening), the Town Council stuck it to the public again!
The following was a proposal in the agenda for council "action:"
The Agenda includes:
"B: COUNCIL ACTION
3. Other Business
h. Increase to Various Revenue Fees"
(The attachments minimally elaborated on this possible Council Action:)
"TO: Mayor Andrew Adil
Wethersfield Town Council
FROM: Bonnie L. Therrien, Town Manager
DATE: June 4, 2007
SUBJECT: Increase to Various Revenue Fees
Background on Agenda Item: During your budget deliberations you heard the proposed fee increases as prepared by the Revenue Committee. The Revenue Committee recommended increases to fees as follows: Increasing the per copy fee from $0.50 to $1.00;..."
The politically tilted Revenue Committee recommended through Bonnie Therrien to make the above proposal which increases the document copying fee per page from 50 cents to $1.oo.
I posted an email to all of the Council which said that the public information seekers (via FOI etc) should not be used as an income stream for the Town, which employs and pays staff for such public purposes and that the doubling of the fee would be/ is unwarranted, unnecessary, unpatriotic and unconscionable!
The tax-and-spend Council ignored my suggestion not to raise the copying fee; they raised the per page fee to now $1.oo cash on the barrel head, effective July 1, 2007.
No charge to look at the document(s) and no charge to use a hand-held scanner (per FOI CT) to copy each page yourself.
So, all you information seekers, now is the time to descend upon Town Hall and get all of your copying done and you will save 50%!
Such a deal!
