This article below appeared in today's Courant. Considering his arrogant, rude and dismal performance in the original appointment process, I'm guessing the mayor is sorry to have this issue rear its ugly head again just before the election.

WETHERSFIELD -- Town officials want to establish a salary range and possibly increase the pay of the town clerk.
Town council member Andy Adil said a committee began reviewing Town Clerk Dolores Sassano's salary when it became known that her salary was at the low end of what most department heads earn.
"Her salary has been hovering at the same range for a long time, and we had to look at the fairness of that," Adil said.
Sassano currently earns $52,785 annually in the politically appointed post.
She was appointed by the Democrat-led town council in 2001 when her husband, Wayne Sassano, was mayor. At the time, Dolores Sassano, a former registrar of voters, was not certified as a town clerk. She earned $49,000 in the position.
Her appointment became a campaign issue and may have helped the Republicans win control of the council in 2001.
Once in office, the Republican-led council cut Sassano's salary by $8,000. She has since received annual raises.
Adil said a committee has established an annual salary range of $54,842 to $76,731 for the town clerk position.
"All other non-union positions have salary ranges," said Town Manager Bonnie Therrien. "It's important to have some range."
Therrien said the salary range was based on what other non-union department heads with equal responsibilities earn.
An ordinance must be adopted to establish the salary range, Therrien said.
Adil said Sassano's job performance will be reviewed by department heads in town hall. Currently, the town council gives Sassano an annual performance review. One of Sassano's job duties is to work as the clerk of the council.
Adil argued that peer reviews are needed because the council works with Sassano only on a part-time basis.
