The council rejected the forming of a special committee to evaluate the sewage flooding in peoples homes. Instead, they voted to have the Flood Erosion Board look at the subject. But, Mrs. Therrien made the comment that that Flood Erosion Board had not met "in a bit". Other councillors said that this Board does not do anything. So, can some of the active posters tell me what's going on. What does that Flood Erosion board do? What does "not met in a bit" mean? No council member asked Therrien for details.

That Flood-Erosion Commission has not met since the year 2000. That sure seems to match the council comments that it has not been doing anything. Citizens who plan to vote this November in the Councillor elections need to remember how the Democratic majority treated this issue last night.

If the Republicans introduce a resolution in support of Mother's Day, Andy, Russ and Julie will oppose it in unison, "Ponch" Forrest will say it's unconstitutional, Christine will ask to refer it to one of the 20 committees of which she is the chair, and the deputy mayor will continue to stare and snore.

oldetowne, I am very suprised about the last comment. I, surely, separated you and put you above the rest that use this type of description.

Good post oldetowne, I thought I was the only one that noticed the games they play.
The only thing you forgot to mention is, when The Deputy Mayor is looking forward blankly, he is thinking how he can somehow turn the radio system into a boat anchor and still run for re-election.

Lou - Thanks for the comment - I appreciate people calling me out on legitimate topics here. I spent some time deciding whether to make any comment or not. But at this point, nearly two years into their tenure, while I have a great deal of respect for the deputy mayor and think highly of him personally, I have to say that his performance as a member of the Council, at least in the context of "adding value" to any discussion or debate, has been disappointing. There are many ways in which people can serve their community but sitting there and reading scripted comments and going along with the pre-arranged order of things is demeaning to a person with his credentials and abilities.

The miracle of videotape gives us the opportunity to review how the Sewage-in-the-house commission got squashed. Town Manager Therrien claims responsibility for this by having the issue go to the Flood Erosion Board "because they have expertise". But when e councillor asks what the Board members qualifications are, she has to admit she does not know what their qualifications are. Is this the kind of executive talent that we pay big bucks for?

Dear tomterific, by that standard, what qualifications does the council have to set the budget? Most of these boards never meet, but the charter says we have to have them.
The bottom line is the "town manager" has a degree in town government and we should all drink the cool aid.
