Anybody have an opinion on this? It's been hard to keep track of which plan is the latest one.

Hopefully this redistricting thing will get worked out soon. I think the plan has sound reasoning behind it but I am unsure if redrawing the lines to make each population more diverse is going to solve any problems. As I see it the kids will be nicely mixed in k-6, but by high school the truth is, the minorities are the bulk of the level three classes. So in essence the population gets segregated again anyway.
An even bigger issue is the social promotion that happens in 8th grade. The graduation of truly unprepared kids to the high school is a crime against those kids and the rest of the high school population. If you are not reading on grade level and have behavior issues you should not get promoted to the high school. Right now no one stays back. That has to change.
Just as a side note to the redistricting plan. Honestly I wish they had just devised it and said here it is no changes…this feedback time is just a real bad idea. WHY did we pay all this money to make the plan if it is so wrong upon proposal it takes six meetings of feedback to tweak it out?

TEXT I wasnt happy with the last plan they came up with , I tried to get to last nights meeting but due to my son's football practice running late I was unable to attend, what I would like to know is why they just dont divide the Silas Dean Highway and all the children to the right ( that's the side facing Old Wethersfield) go to Hanmer and they you can spread all the others with the four remaining schools. I dont see why this is so differcult to manage, the first plan was so obviouse that you didnt want the low income housing at HighCrest so you made that little square and put them at Hanmer, but then changed it again to fit HighCrest and Emerson. Just divide the Silas Dean highway it would be the easier way to do this and like I said all to the right Hanmer and the rest you still have 4 schools to divide them into.
