I was wondering, how did the lottery for ballot positions go this afternoon at the WPD facility? Who got paired with whom on the ballot? And, does anyone want to prognosticate on the implications of those pairings, especially regarding the Town Council.

I am sure the good Dr. can put this into a better format, but here is what I was told:
1A - Drake 1B - Fortunato 1C - Console 2A - Soja 2B - Morin 3A - Cascio 3B - Adil 4A - Franco 4B - Kotkin 5A - Kirsche 5B - Walsh 6A - Roberts 6B - Forrest
7A - Adamian 7B - McKenna 8A - n/a 8B - Hodges
9A - Wrona 9B - Montinieri 10A - Deangelo 10B - Malec
And I wouldn't even begin to speculate on what, if any, effect this would have.

Hey what do we know about this petition candidate, Console?

John J. Console, 38 Ivy Ln, Weth' (obviously), circulated a petition to garner the needed number of signatures to qualify him to be on the ballot this November. According to my 2 month-old, digital edition of the (registered) voters list, he is/was(?) registered as a Republican, but is running without the an official party endorsement.
I am told that he and his campaign committee will be focusing on his being an effective voice (if elected) of the 'silent majority' of our citizens who are being squeezed by poorly constrained financial forces running loose in our town.
I am told that he will become much more vocal and visible as the political season cranks up to full speed. I am sure that you will have an opportunity to meet him (and a whole bunch of other candidates) at the many events which are planned in Weth' in the next two months (as of the moment, 61 days and counting!).
If you want to know more, just call him. All candidates need to hear from the electors - us; call them all, if you like. No, I am not being facetious.

Dear Bill, I am a little surprised to see that you have chosen to open a new, top-level thread (presumably at the request of Bulldog-the-Defecator, formerly Bulldog-the-Urinator) instead of suggesting that he just participate in the thread which was already open, involving the exact same topic, in the Town Council and other Town Boards (TCOTB) thread. That having been said, I suggest that you consider either moving his opening thread (the thinly veiled, anally oriented "Yearly time to hold the ankles") to that of the TCOTB, or, moving (my) Syzygy's "Election Day 11/8/2005" from TCOTB thread to the new, top-level "Election 2005" thread which you just created or allowed to be created. In either case, welcome back!

Succinctly, a good time was had by all who attended the "Lunch with the Governor" yesterday 9/20/2005.
This included not only, as you would suspect, a fair number of Republicans, but also Unaffiliateds and even some Democrats.
The question on everyone's lips was deftly and diplomatically dodged, at this time, by the Gov., M. Jodi Rell.
As evidenced by her activities of late, she has grown in stature, showing that she is a fast learn as the top administrator of the State: flawlessly, no; but nonetheless, very well indeed! Dare I say, a breath of fresh air!

Oldetowne, I also could not agree more, but I believe we have previous council's to thank for the situation we are now in. I also believe that the current council is only doing what they feel is best to get us on the right path. I am not a politician, so I cant really comment on the way things get done, but as far as the turf goes, this council ran on a specific platform of issues, and improvements at Cottone was one of them. The way I see it, they are only following through with promises made during their campaign. They are doing what they feel is best to get us on the right path by ignoring us? Curious approach. I have written 2 letters to the council and had zero responses. I will not go their their meeting and have only the minutes they allow me to speak. I pay to live here, and they won't even listen to me. No, they are just plain arrogant, and hell bent on having it their way. I saw our mayor campaigning at the CornFest. I kept walking.

morganika, I feel your pain, just like Forrest likes to imply. But, I suggest that you rethink your approach to politicians.
Granted, elected politicians are full of themselves, basking in the sunshine of electoral mandates to lead our republican (small 'r') levels of government. Once they have tasted the sweet nectar of political office (which gets sweeter as they ascend the ladder), they get hooked on it and will do what they have to in order to stay in office. They are very good at reading the political winds (usually) and they certainly know how to count votes.
Just like we are suffering from the Bush oligarchy in Washington, DC (District Columbia), we suffer under the local Democrat oligarchy here in Wethersfield, DC (Democrat Caucus): both sides in each location aim to cement their positions of power to exert their views and affect their own desired status quo to the exclusion of those who do not see their way - lip-service to the contrary.
The citizenry, in my "humble" opinion should not miss the opportunity to let those breathing the rarefied air of elected office exactly what "we the people" are concerned about. Without feedback (prior to next election) the pols run the risk of listened only to themselves and their handlers.
I don't believe we have gotten to that state in the US where we have to worry about being imprisoned or shot by order of a politico who doesn't like what we said or might say. We owe it to our fellow citizens to tell the pols exactly what concerns us, over and over again.
So, maybe the next time, instead of crossing over to the other side the street to avoid one of them as if pariah, you might want to buck up and stand toe to toe and nose to nose with the pol who happens to come your way - look at it as an opportunity to exercise your American rights while they still last.

Oh...my sweet. You are always right. I was feeling vicious last evening after cleaning up piles of cat poo in my garden. I should give them a good what for!
