On this CIO business.
Let me say first that the sum is 90k not 100k for the salary. While that is not a huge difference budget wise it is a difference and I think you should stick to facts when discussing things.
As I understand it the position will be funded 75/25 town and board.
The committee laid out all the qualities the town should look for. They wrote it, they said it, they presented it. They begged for the position to be filled. They made the need very clear, as you all read-- and some of you stated made sense.
Then out of the blue...with
NO SEARCH COMMITEE,
WITH NO INVOLVMENT FROM THE COMITEE,
WITH NO QUESTIONS ASKED,
WITH NO OUTSIDE SEARCHING,
WITH NO OUTSIDE JOB POSTING,
WITH NO DISCUSSION PUBLICALLY!!!!!!!!!!!
(CAN YOU TELL HOW CRAZY THIS MAKES ME)
The TC and Bonnie put the BOE IT guy in charge of this crazy mess. They will say ‘Its only a one year trial, it’s temporary!’ This means that if the position doesn't work out because ...oh I don't know the guy isn't qualified, in over his head, under supported, in over his head, under qualified, (yes I know I repeated myself) no experience with a CIO position ...oh the list goes on. Then the TC could decide this position is ineffective, and cut it, or worse let it go and bleed money. All while never really looking for someone who can do the job well. IN EFFECT saving money for all of us by using resources wisely.
Not to mention I don’t think this person should be coming from under the skirts of the BOE.
The TC should have posted this externally, we don’t know if we hired the best person for the job now because we don’t know who else could have done it and for how much.
This is like getting a contractor to build your house and picking your cousin because he once made a bird house… from a kit… with predrilled holes. Do I need to elaborate? This is a huge mistake. Mark my words---its just one more place where a good idea is ruined because they (the TC and Bonnie) cut corners. Basically every meeting the committee ever had has been a waste of time.
Those men and women volunteered to serve the community, they are professionals who actually know what they are talking about, and Bonnie and the TC wasted all of their time. Way to go!! That is why so many people are scrambling to volunteer!
WHEN WILL YOU LEARN GUYS? Does everything here have to be done twice at 200% of the initial cost?
If there is an IT god I say we all light up our flash drives and pray that he helps us.
