There's an article in today's Courant saying that there will be a referendum on July 14 to amend the last bond approval so that we can use the state grants that have been received for the library and town hall. I hope that the referendum passes so that we can keep moving on this project.

Yes, it should be supported, but I have to wonder about how many and for what reasons will there be a negative votes.
We will make every effort to get the vote out.

I think you can always count on between 28 and 35 percent voting "no" regardless of what the question is.

Is the July 14 referendum still happening? I heard that it may not be.

It's happening... Due to a glitch in getting the notice out, we're now looking at July 21st. Spread the word everyone!

July 21 is not a good day for a referendum: "Previously on November 27, 2003 Jupiter also made an alignment with this upcoming full moon. Here is a quote from the November AstroForecast 2003 about this alignment: “Military intelligence, cost effectiveness and scandals involving shady partnerships have an impact on a national/international scale. Hypocrisy, double standards, hypercriticism, fraud, hush funds and scathing verbal attacks are other forms of fallout with this alignment”. The last alignment of Jupiter, due to its retrogradation, will occur on July 21, 2004."

just some astrology mumbo jumbo that I ran across, suggesting that bad things would happen on July 21, the day they want to schedule the referendum. Jupiter's in retrograde, you know

I can't seem to stop myself from replying to this one... Oldtowne, I think you've been hanging around that bar too long! Who is going to vote against adding free grant money to any already approved and much needed project ?! This TC is doing exactly what they said they would do. I won't cast espersions like you did (& have done in several different threads) on the TC's intentions but I can't help but think that you must be one of those members of the "taxpayer's assoc." that's been spreading such hatred lately.

I am not (never have been and never will be) a member of the WTXA and I resent the implication that anything I have said or done on here or anywhere else is intended to "spread such hatred". Further, I didn't say that I was going to vote against the project - quite the opposite is the case - I merely said that you can find about 1/3 of the people to vote "no" on anything.

Sorry. It was the heat. But it is sort of annoying that all I did was (1) ask a question about the date of the referendum, (2) note that some people will object to anything and (3) make a joke about astrology, and suddenly I am now a card carrying member of the WTXA, lying to Alzheimers patients to get them to sign petitions, lobbying against quality education, and spreading hatred. Maybe someone else is the one with the short fuse and thin skin.

Oldtowne, some people just don't get it. I find "most " of your post informative and sometimes humorous. Don't apoligize, your in the right.
